Here, at Stanfree valley, we like to look outside the box and explore those
subjects outside of nature. So here is something you may find interesting,
as we did!
More and more companies pledge their need to continually embrace
sustainability. This includes supporting a circular economy, where we can
reuse and remanufacture those technical elements.
The delivered Foundation Management course on behalf IEMA (soon to become ISEP Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Practitioners) offers justification to and routes to sustainability.
One conundrum example we all face is packaging. Of varies forms from
cardboard to plastic, recyclable and non-recyclable. The sheer scope of
problems from plastic based materials is huge, with long-lasting effects on
our environment.
So, how can we use the hierarchy of waste to help us with this issue?
Avoidance is usually in the forefront, however not always achievable. We’ve been looking into alternatives, and one company we are in current talks with is the Magical Mushroom Company. We now have tangible examples of their products, which are cultivated from mycelium of living fungi/mushrooms (and hemp). The outcome is a robust made to fit packaging material (no more polystyrene). It can be reused, and at the end of its life, will be circulated back into the biological cycle, degraded into compost or digestion feed.

The facility based in Beeston, Notts isn’t yet fully up and running, however
the company do have growing facilities in Europe. Brilliantly, the Beeston
site is not far from the train station, so future visits will be fully commuted to by train. The three pillars of sustainability can be met if we can practice innovative ideas into reality.

Lots of love to the Fungi and all things growing!
